Dreamy Historic Wedding Venue Idea | Manchester State Park

I spend a lot of my time researching location ideas for elopements, weddings, and couples sessions. It’s part of what makes my work so exciting! I love discovering new places my clients have never been and then exploring them so I can give you the inside scoop and help you choose a location that resonates with you for your session.

While searching around online, I came across Manchester State Park located in Port Orchard, Washington. I was immediately drawn to this historic brick building surrounded by gorgeous greenery — such a pretty contrast! I added it to my location scouting list and planned a trip out to see it.

I decided to make a trip out of it to get the full experience, so I stayed at the campground! I’ve done a pretty fair share of camping… but I will say, this campground might be one of my top picks. It’s so random too, I would never have said, “let’s go camping in Port Orchard!” But I seriously have no complaints about this campground. The sites were decently spaced, each had a fire pit and picnic table, bathrooms were clean, SHOWERS (this is a big win in my book), and it was a relatively quiet campground.

Why am I mentioning the campground when this post is supposed to be about a wedding venue idea? Well… how cool would it be to reserve several sites and get to camp with your friends and family after your actual wedding! It could turn into a big weekend event. You could even get a really glamorous tent for you and your wedding party to get ready in. This would be an awesome way to utilize the park for your special day!

Imagine having candles surrounding this fireplace with lush florals on the mantel. It would be absolutely dreamy!

Just behind the walls of the fireplace, there is a lush grass picnic garden that would be the perfect place for your guests to hang out while flipping the space from a ceremony space to a reception. There are picnic tables, gorgeous trees, and lots of room for some yard games.

Let’s also not forget that you are right on the waterfront! You can break away from the venue and take a short walk down to the waterfront for photos in a more intimate setting.

If you’re looking for a venue that is a little bit more low-key, laid back, and still has amazing character, this is the place. If you choose to go this route, I recommend that you hire a wedding planner who can help take this blank slate and turn it into your dream venue! They would be able to help you find decor rentals, florals, and coordinate everything for you so you don’t have to worry about the little details.

Some additional details about the Torpedo Warehouse Shelter:

  • Bathrooms are not located inside the shelter, but are just a short walk away
  • There is no electricity here! You will want to look into a mid-day ceremony for the best natural lighting. Generators are allowed.
  • Max Occupancy is 150 guests
  • You can reserve this site up to 9 months in advance

Check out their website to inquire about a reservation and to learn more!

I hope to photograph your wedding here soon!

x, Aliyah
